FRIDAY, MAY 22
Guardian Jiu-Jitsu Team,
We hope all of you are safe and well! As the COVID infection curve in Michigan continues to flatten, Kevin and I are now taking initial steps to plan our gym re-opening. The re-opening date is not under our control, as we must abide by state and local laws, or risk having our business license revoked.
That said, once we are legally able to, we will re-open on the first available date (whether that be in late May, early June, or later).
Two important notes:
1. As always, training in Jiu-Jitsu, kickboxing, or any martial art involves inherent risk (risk of injury, risk of catching a virus such as the flu or COVID, etc.) Whether you want to train - or want your child to train - is an individual decision based on many factors. But please remember, if you do decide to attend classes, you do so at your own risk. We will ask all students (and their parents, if they are minors) to sign a NEW updated waiver form that specifically mentions COVID as a risk.
2. When we re-open the gym, we will likely do so under a temporarily abbreviated schedule. Offering fewer classes (temporarily) will allow our staff more time for cleaning and other logistics related to the re-opening.
As our class schedule and gym operations evolve, we ask for your patience and understanding. There’s no “playbook” for this situation as a business owner, and having some flexibility will be important for us to continue to keep the gym operational.
Once again, Kevin and I would like to thank you all for your support and patience during this time. Once the governor’s office provides more clarity on a date, we will provide an update here.
We can’t wait to see you all again (on the mats)!
Andy & Kevin

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (also commonly known as "BJJ," "Gracie Jiu-Jitsu," or just "Jiu-Jitsu") is a martial art that focuses on grappling to establish dominant control of an opponent, and the use of submission holds to force an opponent to "tap out." BJJ is founded on the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger, heavier opponent.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training is a great way to get in shape while learning effective self defense. The best part: it’s a whole lot of fun!
The Guardian Jiu-Jitsu Kids Program offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training for children ages 6 to 15. We welcome kids of all skill levels, from experienced Jiu-Jitsu students to complete beginners.
How do kids benefit when they train Jiu-Jitsu? Besides learning self defense techniques, kids who train Jiu-Jitsu develop physical attributes, including balance, coordination and motor skills. Jiu-Jitsu also helps children develop confidence, discipline, and other virtues which translate “off the mat” in others areas of life.
The Guardian Kickboxing Program offers training for teens and adult men and women, ages 16 and up.
We welcome students of all skill levels, from experienced kickboxers, to complete beginners.
Our kickboxing program stresses fundamentals, and is an excellent complement to Jiu-Jitsu training. Plus, it's a fun and intense workout!
Get fit... develop confidence... and unleash your inner strength!
Our Women's Martial Arts Program offers classes in both Jiu-Jitsu as well as kickboxing.
These women's martial arts classes offer a great workout, and are appropriate for all skill levels. Many of our students begin with little to no experience, so whether you're an advanced student, or a complete beginner, you can jump right in.
